Xorafakia is a small village between Kalathas and Tersanas, 12km northeast of Chania. It is an ideal place for a family, quiet holiday.
In Kalathas there is a quiet sandy beach with pine trees and a lovely islet in front. There is a restaurant and a beach volleyball court. Tersanas beach (1.5 km northwest) is another excellent sandy beach where there is also a canteen.
Another amazing beach is that of Stavros (6km north) where, in addition to the soft sand and clear waters, visitors can see a Neolithic cave that was used as a shelter from the end of the Bronze Age and throughout the Hellenistic period.
The village is 20 minutes from the airport of Chania and half an hour from the port of Souda. There is regular transport (6 times a day) to Chania. Sometimes the beach can be very crowded but it is still worth visiting.
